Doppler radar fails, satellites help IMD in tracking storm

Non-functional Doppler radar in Mumbai during the movement of Cyclone Tauktae along the west coast might have caused some embarrassment for India Meteorological Department (IMD) but it did not affect prediction of the cyclone’s track and intensity as the agency has robust back-up facilities.​
